When it comes to being a photographer, or any other creative for that matter, it’s really important that you infuse YOU into your branding. Why? Because you are a personal brand just as much as you are a photographer, documenter, artist, etc.
When you create in a saturated industry, the thing that makes customers buy from you versus any other number of talented artists, is…YOU.
And how can they do that if they don’t know you?
In this day and age of social media, so much of buying influence is centered around who someone feels they know. I understand how tempting it is to “let your work speak for itself”, but unfortunately that’s not enough anymore. It’s your responsibility to CONNECT with your audience and show them your authentic self. As a website and brand designer, I help you dig deep into that process when we’re creating your brand. But today I want to talk about how to infuse you into your branding in three simple ways (that you can literally start TODAY).
When thinking through your content, I want you to pick a few areas of common interest to share. You may have noticed I talk about my cats, a LOT. Or my upcoming wedding, reading, harry potter, you name it. Those are a couple life-related things I have chosen to share with my business audience. And tbh, it’s really fun to share these elements of my life! It makes social media a much more enjoyable experience because I get to be myself, connect with those I haven’t had the chance to yet, and deepen friendships I’ve previously made 🙂
Okay, okay – if you’re already cringing, I want to ask you to keep an open mind. Can you imagine following someone for a while, seeing their work, and debating if you are going to spend hundreds of dollars on their package and YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE? That’s absurd! you’re going to lose potential clients who don’t feel connected to you because you’re hiding behind text. It doesn’t have to be every day, but occasionally when you feel up to it, hop on your stories and talk to the camera. Save those stories as highlights so potential clients can always access that connection. That’s a powerful way to infuse you into your branding!
On the flip side of the same coin, find your voice in your writing. When you are writing captions, find a similar style and stick to that so your audience gets comfortable with the way you talk. I mentioned this on my last blog post with a handy graphic and adjectives to consider when finding your voice. Ideally, you want your captions to sound like how you really talk. You can use an app like Otter to verbalize your captions and get a feel for how your voice sounds when typed.
All in all, it’s super important to bring your authentic self to your brand. You will have people hire you not only because they love your work BUT ALSO because they think you’re cool AF. And those are the dream clients you’ve been waiting for. They are simply waiting on you to show up & infuse YOU into your branding.
